Any parent will tell you that kids always get sick after hours or on weekends, when the pediatrician’s office is closed. Whether it’s a fever, an earache, a swollen ankle or stomach pain, mom Lisa Pugh knows what it’s like to have a child in pain. When her daughter was running a fever on a rainy weekend morning, she downloaded the new Q.care app to call the free pediatric nurse call line. Operated in association with Children’s Memorial Hermann, the Q.care app connects users to a nurse who can answer questions about sick children and provide triage services over the phone.
For the busy mother of two, the new app was extremely helpful. “My daughter was running a fever at 8:30 a.m. on a Sunday morning with a runny nose and cough. I had heard about the new nurse line service at work so I decided to try it,” explains Pugh. “It was a very easy process. It took very little time to download the app on my phone.”
Within minutes, the app connected Pugh to the nurse on duty. “The nurse asked about my daughter’s symptoms, how long she’d had them, and if there was anyone else sick at home.”
Pugh found the information to be very helpful. “She even gave us some helpful hints to help with my daughter’s congestion at night,” says Pugh.
The best part of all for Pugh and her family: they did not have to venture out on the rainy day to get the care her daughter needed. “I loved the fact that we did not have to leave our house to get the help we needed,” adds Pugh.
Pugh is certain that she would use the service again if the need arises and she’s already recommended it to her friends and family.
